Our Doctors and Therapists often use adjunctive therapy options in a more comprehensive treatment approach. Other therapy options may include:
How Does Rock Tape help?:Two weeks ago we added a V-actor head to our already popular shockwave machine. Our standard head is called the D-actor and both tools can be used as a stand-alone treatment or together. In addition, these tools are often used as an adjunct in a general treatment plan. Patients have been giving us extremely positive feedback since our shockwave machine arrived 7 months ago. We have done hundreds of treatments and applied over 2 million pulses to date. If you have shoulder, elbow and/or foot pain, try shockwave.
Shockwave Update
Patients will sometimes ask if they can correct their posture. If we measured or took pictures of a persons posture before and after treatment we would often see little to no physical change. For example, someone may show you an x-ray of a crooked back and claim they can straighten the spine. This would be nearly impossible to accomplish and I have never seen any science supporting such claims. In my experience and in discussions with colleagues the general opinion is that dramatic postural change it is extremely challenging. I do think however that postural management is an important component to treatment and in combination with other therapeutic tools can be very effective..... Recent scientific studies have unlocked the mystery of acupuncture and were able to show anatomical and physiological mechanisms of acupuncture. The growing body of scientific literature is responsible for increased popularity of acupuncture in Western Medicine. A study by Irnich et al. was able to show that a single treatment of acupuncture had immediate effects on pain and mobility (range of motion) in patients with chronic neck pain(1). The health literature has recognized the relationships between one body region and the functional performance of another. Simply put one body part (i.e., feet) has a compensatory effect on other body regions (i.e., upper body, golf swing). This rational translates into the premise that the body functions as a whole as opposed to functioning regionally. In this case I am comparing one regional body part (your feet) and the use of foot orthotics in affecting the body as a whole, in an effort to enhance golf performance. Running season is here again. After a long winter we are excited about gearing up for another fun summer of tearing up the paths and pounding the pavement. Maybe its time to shop for some new runners or the latest athletic garb? A few tunes may help the miles go by or a new watch may help track our times. We are anxious to get started and feel the ground beneath our feet, the warm sun on our face, and the wind at our back. Its easy to get caught up in the excitement and over exert ourselves in the first couple of outings. Post activity we notice a sore knee, hip or back? Now your wondering if this pain is nothing to worry about or if it will present any future problems. I had seen a great piece a few years ago on the possible benefits of treadmill desks. The article and researcher from the Mayo Clinic had demonstrated significant positive benefits from using treadmill work stations. Ever since I have wondered about getting one but they were scarce and very pricey at the time not to mention is was a new idea that needed to be worked out a bit more. Nowadays plenty has been written and many types exist on the market and therefore this equipment is more practical and affordable today. Anyhow here are a few links to a couple articles and a few product options that I was able to find on line. Treadmill desks: How practical are they?
