We now have a second flexion distraction table. Flexion distraction therapy is very gentle; the technique is applied by mild inputs from the practitioner and feedback from the patient. It works by applying a mild amount of motion to the specific areas targeted by the treating practitioner. These specific motions assist in stretching soft tissues as well mobilizing joint structures. Patients typically note a general sense of relief and in turn look forward to and often request this treatment. Each of the practitioners has their own unique style and preferences when using flexion distraction. In addition, it is generally used in combination with other therapies. After we received our first flexion distraction table about one year ago we have had a strong positive response from patients. Furthermore, we feel it has helped to improve our overall patient outcomes. Ask any of our therapists about this treatment option to see if it's for you. Our Doctors and Therapists often use adjunctive therapy options in a more comprehensive treatment approach. Other therapy options may include:
How Does Rock Tape help?:Traditional ultrasound therapy was the go to modality for the conditions noted below for many years. Laser showed up on the scene in a big way in the early 2000s. Nowadays the modality of choice for our 10 practitioners is Shockwave. Our ultrasound machine sits idol most of the time and is only used on those patients who we cannot use Shockwave on, which is a very small percent. Our cold laser was rarely used; in fact so little it was sold as the practitioners lost confidence in that particular modality.
Shockwave is especially specific for tendinopathies such as: Two weeks ago we added a V-actor head to our already popular shockwave machine. Our standard head is called the D-actor and both tools can be used as a stand-alone treatment or together. In addition, these tools are often used as an adjunct in a general treatment plan. Patients have been giving us extremely positive feedback since our shockwave machine arrived 7 months ago. We have done hundreds of treatments and applied over 2 million pulses to date. If you have shoulder, elbow and/or foot pain, try shockwave.
Kinesio Taping began more than 25 years ago by Dr. Kenzo Kase (Chiropractor). Kineso tape is distinctly different to athletic taping as it allows for greater range of motion and is designed to improve circulation and assist in pain management. Quality tape products have elastic properties, are latex free and breathable. In addition it is of medical grade and the thickness and weight approximates that of the skin. The tape is easily tolerated by patients and and can be worn for 3 - 5 days. The tape has numerous benefits and is usually used in combination with other therapies in a clinic setting. Athletes also use taping techniques to enhance performance and recovery times. At Healthview we often use a brand of tape called Rock Tape as the practitioners like the quality and the adhesive properties over some other brands. Patients will sometimes ask if they can correct their posture. If we measured or took pictures of a persons posture before and after treatment we would often see little to no physical change. For example, someone may show you an x-ray of a crooked back and claim they can straighten the spine. This would be nearly impossible to accomplish and I have never seen any science supporting such claims. In my experience and in discussions with colleagues the general opinion is that dramatic postural change it is extremely challenging. I do think however that postural management is an important component to treatment and in combination with other therapeutic tools can be very effective..... The month of June is National Athletic Therapy Month. This is a good time to remember that anyone can benefit from seeing an athletic therapist, not just athletes. Kaylee Woodward, the athletic therapist at Healthview is currently accepting new patients and would be happy to hear from anyone who has questions about athletic therapy. |
