New Shockwave Peri-Actor Heads

4/26/2016

We have added four new myofascial transmitters to our Shockwave therapy treatments. Peri-Actor fascial heads can penetrate deep into tissues not reached by traditional methods.

Fascia can be viewed as a sack throughout the body that encapsulates and compartmentalizes tissue such as muscle. Recent theory focuses the important role of mobility, function and pain and consequently imbalances within the myofascial tissues.

What is Fascial tissue? If you look at a piece of meat and see that thin fibrous translucent fibrous surrounding tissue - that's fascia.

Myofascial treatments are often typically done by hand or with instrument assisted hand tools. These methods are known to be beneficial but may not reach the depth or have the effectiveness of mechanical tools such as Shockwave.

Practitioners at Healthview often combine contemporary fascial protocols with Shockwave head combinations. Shockwave treatment is a popular choice as an adjunctive modality with our clinicians.

If you have questions contact us or ask one of our providers for information.

Several exercises to get you started this spring. Naturally be careful and gradual if you have been sedentary for the last little while.  Don't feel you need to follow the program exactly.

This is a gradual increase so for most the increase will be manageable.  For those who have been active you can add this to your current program.

If you have concerns ask one of our professionals for a modified program or join one of our classes. Finally, uncertainty about current health status should be addressed first. Try the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire below and or see a qualified professional.

Good Luck and Have Fun !

Acupuncture a Safe and Effective Treatment Option

4/14/2016

Acupuncture uses filiform needles that have rounded ends and resemble a thread or filament. These are different from hypodermic needles which are sharper and designed to cut tissue. Acupuncture can be practiced in a traditional manner (Chinese medicine) or is utilized in modern evidence based fashion. In some instances both methods may be employed and the treatment combined with various treatment methods from electrical modalities, soft tissue therapies, and exercise.

Patients have varied responses to acupuncture treatments and some good evidence exists demonstrating its effectiveness when acupuncture is used appropriately. Ask your provider if you are a candidate for this treatment method. The practitioners at Healthview use acupuncture as an adjunctive component in a comprehensive treatment plan.

Acupuncture treatment at Healthview is generally used within the medical model with a focus on managing pain and promoting the healing of damaged tissue. In addition, electro-acupuncture is often utilized to enhance the effect of the treatment.
