Graston Technique

4/4/2018

Healthview is a Graston Provider

We are pleased to offer Graston Technique at Healthview Therapy Centre. Dr. Robert Muir and Kylynn Hill are both Graston certified practitioners. Graston Technique is a soft tissue mobilization technique utilizing specially designed tools to assist athletes and individuals with their injuries.

When scar tissue is present, or when a practitioners hands can't get deep enough, the Graston tools help to reach the areas that are bothering a patient and help heal the tissues. Using the Graston tools puts the practitioner at an advantage owing to the design of the tools. The tools are able to conform to certain parts of the body better than ones hands alone. The Graston tools also carry a “different” sensation back to the practitioner allowing us to better diagnose and find restrictions (a.k.a. scar tissue) that can lead to dysfunction in muscles, ligaments, tendons and connective tissue.

Spring Running Program

3/23/2013

Picture
Running season is here again.  After a long winter we are excited about gearing up for another fun summer of tearing up the paths and pounding the pavement. Maybe its time to shop for some new runners or the latest athletic garb? A few tunes may help the miles go by or a new watch may help track our times.   We are anxious to get started and feel the ground beneath our feet, the warm sun on our face, and the wind at our back.

Its easy to get caught up in the excitement and over exert ourselves in the first couple of outings. Post activity we notice a sore knee, hip or back? Now your wondering if this pain is nothing to worry about or if it will present any future problems.

Treadmill Desks

2/12/2013

I had seen a great piece a few years ago on the possible benefits of treadmill desks.  The article and researcher from the Mayo Clinic had demonstrated significant positive benefits from using treadmill work stations. Ever since I have wondered about getting one but they were scarce and very pricey at the time not to mention is was a  new idea that needed to be worked out a bit more.

Nowadays plenty has been written and many types exist on the market and therefore  this equipment is more practical and affordable today. Anyhow here are a few links to a couple articles and a few product options that I was able to find on line.

Should I use Heat or Ice?

6/13/2012

Over the 30+ years I have worked as a physiotherapist, patients have asked me a number of questions that I would like to answer in our upcoming newsletters. The first question I would like to address is:

Should I use heat or ice?
